HIGH DENOMINATION NOTES

Scan   Year   Description Grade Price
Small Size Type Notes Fed Reserve 1928 $500 This dark green seal Chicago district note is loaded with eye appeal. Blast white paper, decent margins and bold inking make it look CU at first glance. It takes some effort to spot a very light center bend on the front, one that does not show on the back. A neat serial# G00066111A is a plus. A very small paper clip scratch shows in the green area at the top above the T in UNITED. It can easily be overlooked and really affects nothing but we would be remiss in not mentioning it. A super note that represents the very tough 1928 series very well indeed!
AU $1750
Small Size Type Notes Fed Reserve 1934A $500 A great looking note from the rarer Atlanta district, one that we seldom see here in the midwest. Good margins and color, along with clean paper, add to its eye appeal. We see a center fold and a corner fold, along with a small bit of paper clip rust that shows on the back with a very minor bleed to the front. We invite you to inspect the scans as it may be just what you need.

PCGSVF20PPQ $345
Small Size Type Notes Silver Cert 1935A $1 Hawaii note, SC block. PMG says 65EPQ and we agree. While not rare in this grade, they always seem to be in demand. No reason to ever have to upgrade this beauty. SOLD
PMGGEM65EPQ $185
Small Size Type Notes Fed Res Note 1934A $5 The paper is crispy and the color bold on this good looking Hawaii $5. A small spot of ink in the right margin is but a very minor distraction. This may be the best condition note that many collectors can afford and it represents this popular type quite nicely.
VF $85
Small Size Type Notes Fed Reserve 1934A $5 HAWAII. The grade says it all, Superb Gem 67PPQ! PCGS has graded only 8 at this level , a lone 68 tops the census! A simply wonderful note that will likely be the best that can be found for this very popular and widely collected series.
PCGSSGEM67PPQ $3000
Small Size Type Notes Fed Res Note 1934 $20 A better 1934 series Hawaii $20 note. The paper has good crispness but several heavier center folds keep it at the Fine grade.
Fine $135
Small Size Type Notes Silver Cert 1934 $10 North Africa, 1934 mule, A91487901A, Fp125, Bp829. This is the rare and desirable North Africa note that is the key to any set of World War II notes. The colors are bold and bright, the margins full and well balanced. It is graded by PMG VF25, a grade that we surely agree with. It is problem free and evenly circulated with some minor soiling that is acceptable for the grade and not a distraction.
PMG VF25 $5100
Small Size Type Notes Silver Cert 1934A $10 NORTH AFRICA. This beauty looks even nicer than the 65PPQ grade as the margins are superb, the color and originality just great! Small Size Type Notes Gold Cert 1928 $10 A well centered BA block $10 that has a printing of about 1/3 that of the AA block. Well centered with good body, the color is quite good. Some light soiling, including some along a sharper center fold on the back, keep it at the Fine grade level.
Fine $275
Small Size Type Notes Gold Cert 1928 $10 This is a super fresh gold certificate, folded and put away for us to collect today. The paper has that unmistakable snap and is bright and clean with superb color and well balanced margins. There is a center fold and an adjacent bend on this note that likely was never in circulation.
XF-AU $350
Small Size Type Notes Gold Cert 1928* $20 STAR NOTE, *00280324A. Stars add so much to a collection and are very tough to find. Fewer errors on these older issues resulted in many fewer stars for us to collect. This note has good crispness but also shows some light but even soiling that keeps it from a full VF grade. The margins are decent and the note presents itself quite nicely.
Fine+ $475
Small Size Type Notes Gold Cert 1928 $20 Fresh and fully original, this well centered gold certificate has great color and bright, clean paper. It has tons of eye appeal and sure beats those dingy looking notes that are most often seen. We see a center fold but few other signs of circulation. The cormers are sharp and no handling marks or soil are seen.

It is an eye appealing beauty that you will love.
Ch AU $450
Small Size Type Notes Gold Cert 1928 $100 Nice original $100 golds have always been tough to find. So many have been pressed, cleaned or worked over. This one is a happy exception and has enough grade to please a good many collectors. PCGS assigns an XF40PPQ grade, one that seems right on. We see a light vertical center fold and 2 broad corner folds at the lower left that define the grade. Good embossing, strong color and well balanced margins are real plusses on this beauty.

Legal Tender Notes

Scan   Year   Description Grade Price
Small Size Type Notes Legal Tender 1928 $1 A neat low serial# A00000180A graces this nice looking and very popular red seal $1 note. Unfortunately it suffers from a close top margin, nothing all that unusual for this margin challenged series! It is close along the top, just touching the design at the upper left. It is fresh and original with great color and has been graded New62PPQ by PCGS, a grade that we fully agree with.
PCGSNEW62PPQ $750

AU $325
Small Size Type Notes Legal Tender 1928B $2 The KEY to the small size red seals and always in strong demand. This crackly fresh beauty comes from the same run as the last one we offered and sold a few months ago. PMGGEM66EPQ $175
Small Size Type Notes Silver Cert 1935 $1 With the strong interest in block collecting, we expect this PA block note to attract some attention. It comes from the third rarest of the 17 blocks printed for this series. A couple of folds and some wrinkling do not adversely affect its nice look. It books at $150 in ChCU.
XF $40
Small Size Type Notes Silver Cert 1935 $1 A sharp example of this early 1935 series silver, this one from the DA block. Bold inking and color add to its excellent eye appeal. Centered a bit too low for a Gem grade.

Small Size Type Notes FRBN 1929 $5 This Minneapolis district note is one of the keys to the FRBNs, having the third lowest issue of the $5s. Our note has crispy, clean paper with several heavier folds and would tend towards the lower end of the VF grade. Good margins add to its eye appeal. The rarity of this issue is explained in a great article by Peter Huntoon and Lee Lofthus in the Jan/Feb 2010 issue of Paper Money. It states that all of the Minneapolis $5s were issued in 1933 -34, which helps to account for its rarity, especially in high grade. More than 2/3 of the FRBNs were released during WWII, which accounts in part for the proliferation of CU notes seen from many districts. SOLD
VF $150
Small Size Type Notes FRBN 1929 $5 This San Francisco $5 note is the rarest and most desirable note in this very popular series! While we have seen a number of VGs offered over the years, notes any nicer than that have been very tough to find. This nice looking Fine has good body and clean, evenly circulated paper. Its only flaw is a margin tear above the Woods signature that just enters the design. It is a very minor distraction on this good looking note.
Fine $1350
Small Size Type Notes FRBN 1929 $5 Another San Francisco $5 note, most unusual to have a second one to offer. This one has good eye appeal with clean paper and a closer but acceptable bottom margin. Lightly flattened at one time, it is at the lower end of the VF grade.
VF $2250
Small Size Type Notes FRBN 1929* $10 Here's a much tougher Chicago STAR note, G00004121*. Evenly circulated and problem free, it looks quite nice and retains good crispness for the grade. It shares the lowest issue of $10s at 12,000 with the Dallas district. With only about 15 known per our latest information, there are only 3 districts with a smaller number known. Only 1 in the census appears to be much nicer than this note. Although the number of notes printed is listed as 12,000, the serial number range suggests much fewer actually issued as the high serial# listed is 6988! This is an up and coming series with quite a few collections offered over the past few years. They have attracted considerable interest and realized some very strong prices. Several of the notes in the census have sold for some strong $$s over the years. This attractive note should please many FRBN collectors.
Fine+ $1100
Small Size Type Notes FRBN 1929 $10 This St Louis note is one of only 4 low serial#s recorded by Dean Oakes. The others are lower #s and CU, while this H00000087A shows even wear. Considering the time period when these were issued, it is a wonder that any lower #s were saved as these represented a lot of money at a time when money was hard to come by! This is a nice looking, evenly circulated note that is sure to please its new owner.
Fine $275
Small Size Type Notes FRBN 1929* $10 Minneapolis district star, I00020685*. This is a tough star from a popular and rarer district. Evenly circulated with clean, crispy paper and a good overall look, it is sure to please the many new FRBN collectors. This series has seen a strong rise in interest and many are starting to realize the rarity of this series. Issued during the depths of the Depression, their survival rate is quite low compared to most other types!
